Do you know about Memorial day? When it was created and why?

Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars.

It is great to see so many thanking those that are serving and those that severed. I do not mean to belittle these service men and women. We should say thank you to them every day not just on Veterans day.

We really need to thank those that did not come home and remember their families.

Happy Straw Hat Day to effurryone!

Today is our annual National Straw Hat Day!

This is the traditional day of the spring season that hooman men officially put away their winter felt hats and put on their new straw hats. So all of us kitties and woofies and buns and donkeys and lizzies etc. will do the same!

We kitties — and woofies and critters — all get out our summer hats and model them. Come on all the donkeys and lizzies and buns, we want to see yours straw hats, too! ~KC

We are celebrating too!

Mom here: I went to Care Now and had the finger x-rayed. They could not see a break si think it is all tendons injuries. They have referred me to a hand specialist.

Thankful Thursday

We are thankful that Mom has all nine fingers and two thumbs and the all seem to work, sort of.

See the white bay by my feet? That is that moves the hoop on her Embroidery machine. It is setting in a hole in her table. That arm moves almost all the way to the end of the table. On the machine there is a button to 'park' or move the arm all the way over (toward me). Mom pushed the button, put her hand on the table (fingers were over the edge of the hole) and goted her hand runed over! She cried and Dad jumped up to see what dumb thing she had done now. Her middle finger on her left hand is slightly bent to the left. If she pushes it back straight, it makes clicking and crunchie noises! ewwwwe!

Mom says it does not hurt like a bad headache or a toothache. It throbs but it still works and bends where it should. There are a couple of red marks on it but no great bruising.

No, she did not go to the clinic. She does not think they can do any thing for it. It will just be a little off sided and look like her Mom's!

This is Milk Vetch. True vetch looks like this but smells like grape Kool-Aid!

Wheat

These two are Indian Blanket. There are a lot of these in the area.

These two are Thistle. Some of these were 5 feet tall!

False Dandelion. These are six inches or more tall unlike other Dandelion that is close to the ground.

Indian Paint Brush

This looks like Baby's Breath, but I think it is Stick Tight. It makes tiny burrs that are impossible to get out of pet hair!

Not sure the name of this one. It looks like a plant My Grandmother called Pink Eye Bush!

Pepper Grass. The 'leaves' look like pepper seeds. It is an eatable plant and has a pepper taste.

Not sure what these two are. Small blue flowers that grow up the stem.

Oats.There are a lot of these. Someone had fun sowing their wild oats!

Another one I do not have a name for.

Believe it or not, there are more. I will save some for tomorrow and then there are critters!

April showers bring May flowers

WE let Mom hijack the blog today. She and Dad have been walking every day. It is only a mile, but it is a place to start. Oak Point Nature Center has cement walkways and natural trails. These shop the hill they walk up and sown and the lake they walk around.

Almost to the top of the hill. I took a picture looking back the way we had come, but it was too small to see the details!

This is Timber chase trail. It goes along the edge of the lake.

The wild flowers have been amazing!

This looks like a Petunia

This may be Primrose although the flower is smaller than others in the park.

This might be Bastard Cabbage. It is taking over and crowding out the Blue Bonnets and Indian Paint Brush!

I do not know the names of many of these, but this one is Wild Verbena!

There are just a few. I will share more over the next day or so!

we have a couple of intruders that come to our backyard. We don't mind him too much, we feel sorry for the two. We do not mind at all that mom feeds the intruders.they have been in backyard for a couple years through the heat and the cold. Mom made sure they had a good warm place in the winter and when it is raining she puts their food bowls inside the shelter. We think they're a mated pair because of the way they act together. We know that they both had been fixed because we haven't had any kittens show up on our doorstep. Mom would sure like to bring Ms. Gray Kitty in but she doesn't know what will happen to Mr. Black. Ms. Gray has gotten so used to mom and she can pick her up and hug her and love on her. Mr. Black is still very shy, he doesn't get within 5 feet of mom. And when he doesn't show up Ms. Gray to find him,and bring him up for dinner. She'll lay down on her back roll up on her tummy and let him have the first go with food bowl.Mr. Black is a scrapper. He's had a few fights has some pretty horrific looking scars but he healed nicely and has a never had any infections in his injuries . Now, what you've all been waiting for, the pictures.

We can't believe it's been two weeks since mom posted last! We don't know what's wrong with our mommy but she just plain lazy when it comes to blogging. Actually she hasn't been doing much sewing on quilts either. She has made a lot of toys but as you can see she hasn't posted any pictures of those either.

We're all okay. We did not have any bad storms the day of the tornadoes, just some rain in teeny tiny hail. Mom stated a friends house all afternoon because her daughter with was in the direct path of one of the tornadoes. Hopefully mom get back to blogging soon because we do miss our friends.

Mom here: last month when I picked up medications at the drugstore, I didn't open the bottle for two nights. When I did I notice that the aluminum safety seal was missing. I didn't think too much about it because sometimes my husband opens my bottles for me. About mid month I became very concerned because I was missing half the bottle of pills. Of course the drugstore wouldn't believe that they gave me an already opened a bottle and would do anything to correct the situation, so I had to take drugs every other day for the last two and half weeks. I'm back to normal dosages now but I think that time frame is caught up with me and I've been really down and and I have no energy and no motivation. Hopefully by the end of the month things look sorted itself out and I'll be back to my usual.

I have been playing with Dragon speech recognition software. If my comments on your blogs do not read very clearly it's because I'm still trying to learn to speak clearly. I got this software because I want to read the book my father wrote into the computer so that we can put it on an e-book. I do not have his original files because they were on 3 1/4 inch floppy disks. And I have no idea where they are. So far I'm having a lot of fun with this Dragon software.

Mom is working in her sewing room. She is rolling her fabric in to cards so they will be more organized! She is using acid free card stock from the comic book store. They use them to separate comic books and go keep them from sagging when places in plastic bags. When Mom folded a length of fabric in half (to 11 inches) they roll the fabric very flat . She has combined 4 drawers into 3! Maybe tomorrow she will get a picture of the roll!

While she had the drawers out of the cabinet. Kirby had to investigate!

Mom said to ignore the tiny toilet on top of the cabinet. It is a coin bank!

Angel lay on the cutting table in the sewing room and watched Kirby climb up to the top of the cabinets and get into any thing he could. She has never attempted his stunts, till now.

We think she watched Kirby and learned. So up she went. She was not brave enough to go all the way to the top. Since she is short legged and bodied, she cannot reach many it the foot holds he uses. She lay on top of the miniature room box all afternoon!

World Cancer Day

WE are celebrating with those that have beaten this evil and come out on the other side.

Farewell Smoky Brown

We have been very sad here all week. Mom's Grandkitty, Smokey has been very sick. He was so cold, throwing up and his breathing was ragged. Mom picked him up and took him to the vet. They could not get a temperature on him, so it was below 90 (should be 98). His kidney values were shy high and so was his liver. After two days on a heating bed and with IV fluids, he was not getting much better. His temp never got above 94 and he had not eaten. The vet did not tell us that he was blind. Today his Mom and Girl (she is 18) had to make the hardest discussion any pet lover can make. Even though he had improved a little and was able to see a little, he did not act like he knew we were there. The vet thought his mind had been affected, so we sent him to the Rainbow Bridge at 7:20 this evening.

I took this one tonight as we all said good by.

He was Mac's litter mate. He has joined his brother and Sister Em at the bridge. His sister Lightening is already showing signs of depression.
