Easy on Sunday

Dad placed out tent on the love seat so he could work on the stereo. Mac decided that was the only place for an easy Sunday!

Mom would like to get the outside kitties trapped and taken care of but does not know who to contact. She does not want the take them to the local city animal control.

No, the odds are extremely high that your local animal shelter would simply euthanize. Ours does, as does our "humane society." We're in the same boat in this city: No where to take kitties that will give them a chance.

Are there any TNR groups in your general area? Sometimes the kindest thing is to neuter/spay then release, in a managed feral colony.

There are handful of people where I am in southeastern Ontario who want to set up managed feral cat colonies, but they have a long way to go to make this happen. Funding always is an issue. And in our city, the vets won't do spay/neuters at discounts except via the humane society. They won't even donate their time to the HS, or so I've heard repeatedly.

Can your mom Google for any local rescue groups? Or perhaps check to see if local pet food/supply stores know of anyone who is doing this? There might not be anyone, but you never know.

Your mom could also try emailing KC at the Cat Blogosphere and having a little blurb posted in the news, that she is trying to find someone to help. You never know! The CB has turned about to be a fantastic "place," with so many people ready to help however they can.

Can't add anything to what Fin wrote, but since the cats look cared for and healthy, we wonder if they're just neighborhood cats who are not properly supervised by their humans. Sending them a note by putting a note around their cats necks saying something like "If I was a mean person, you wouldn't see your cat again", well, it might feel good, but it probably wouldn't help the situation. Tempting, though...

I agree with Kea, send that email and she can get the word out, there are lots who help out like that and can likely give you some very sound advice!

Mac, that tent looks like a great place to hang out!!

As far as the outside kitties, Kea gave you some good advice. Maybe you could find a rescue group that can help.

I think the tent should maybe stay on the loveseat all the time!

As for the outside kitties, you might take a look at the Alley Cat Allies website: http://www.alleycat.org - it has a lot of helpful information about what to do about outdoor kitties.

We think Kea had some fabulous advice and we hope that you're able to find a local rescue to help those sweet babies!

Mac, you're extremely handsome in your tent!

I agree with what Kea said--see if there is a TNR group in your area.

Mac does look happy in the tent.

Mac, we love your tent!
Outside kitties? Maybe you should write to us offline.....our aunt Peggy lives somewhere near you I think, and maybe she can help, but no guarantees. She traps kitties all the time and helps them

Our mewmie never was able to trap TomTom and had to give back the trap to the rescue group she borrowed it from...but at least Mama Katz is spayed now...she will try again later.

Is it possible to set up a warm place for them for over the winter w/food & shelter? Poor babies.
