We are reaching out to all our friends for information on FIP.
Mac has lost 2 pounds in the last 6 weeks. He tested positive for FIP. WE know nothing about this and have not had time to process this and read the internet. We do no it is as bad as it gets.
He has to be seperated from Angel and Kirby until they are tested on Wednesday. If they are negative, he will live out his days in solitary. . If they are positive, they can all get back together.
Mac is being encouraged to eat any thing and every thing to gain weight.

We are sorry you are going through this. Have you tried giving Mac some higher-calorie wet food like Evo? Or perhaps, short term, Hills A/D, which is a highly palatable food. We will purray for you.
I am so very sorry to hear that news. I do not know much either but I am sure some smart ones will be by soon.

Oops! Mom made a boo boo! She was signed in as tiglizzyclone earlier instead of my blog! My mom is a bad secretary! We sure hope you get some good info on FIP.
We are so very sorry to hear it. A former neighbor's kitten had it last year, and I'll tell you what I remember. It strikes mostly kittens. They don't really know why it strikes one & not another. She had this kitten's sister too and she was ok. Many cats can be infected with the virus that causes it but remain healthy. She didn't separate the kittens and I'm sure the sister must have been infected by the time she knew. There's a wet & dry form - her kitten had the wet form. There are some palliative treatments, but most don't survive. She spent at least $5000 to extend his life a couple months. She had to take him in to the vets to have fluids drained at least once a week because their fluids leak out which causes breathing problems. We will be praying for you and the poor little kitten. Google it - the internet is a wonderful tool. Everything is there,
I forgot to mention they tried treating him with interferon, hoping that would help.

We also don't know much about FIP, but we're purring very hard for Mac and for good results for Angel and Kirby's tests!
We had a ten month old kitten that died of FIP, it usually effects cats under one year or over ten years. If your other two cats are healthy they should be okay (our Casper was fine) and Mac will not have to be quarantined, but definitely check with your vet before you do anything. There is a holistic vet online - Dr Charles Loops who has treated some forms of FIP successfully. He does consults via phone and can tell you if he thinks he can help or not. I have used him for two cats with cancer and the tumor disappeared in one of them. Just google him name and see his site. Email me if you want more info. We are so sad to hear this.

It looks as though you have received lots of good information. We'll be sending healing vibes and purrayers for Mac.
All Maw knows is that the wet form of FIP goes very fast. The dry form takes a while longer. It sounds like he probably has the dry form. We are sending you tons of purrs and purrayers and many hugs. This is difficult. FIP is not a good disease to have.

I had a cat about 10 years ago named Kayla who had FIP we went to dr Lillan Cornjoro at Tufts it depends on the type if it the Dry type then he dose not need to be spreated Kayla lived with Mu shue till the day she died 11 mouths after due to the great DR C I still use her she just dlivered some Kittens for me this morning.
We used Cytoxin and predson there are new devloupments in FIP. It all depends on the type do not give up hope. Kayla lasted 11 wonderful months my frist vet told me to put her to sleep

I believe I had a kitty die of FIP. I say believe, because there is no test for FIP. The only way to know for certain is a necropsy. Back when my Kodi was diagnosed, we did a "titer test" which simply tests for the corona virus - FIP is a mutation of the corona virus.
I HIGHLY recommend you get a second and a third opinion. Since FIP is a diagnosis of elimination if the vet you are seeing hasn't seen a lot of different illnesses in cats he might jump to FIP before another.
I also recommend the yahoo group. They have a lot of information on things to test for that are not FIP.
My heart breaks for you because I know first hand what a vet saying FIP to you means and how it feels.
Just so you know, it is NOT contagious. If you have other kitties you don't need to worry unless they are direct siblings. They used to think it was contagious because it would take out whole catteries. Now they believe that there is a genetic component to why the pretty harmless corona virus mutates.

We're so sorry to read this! And apologies we're behind...This is the mom, out of province and checking the news. I know the boys have their purr motors revved up into high gear for Mac, and I'm sending universal Light...We're crossing paws and fingers for the best outcome possible.
We are so sorry to learn of this. Poor Mac. However, people have posted some excellent links to info on both forms of FIP. Don't give up hope, FIP can be an unpredictable disease and flummox even the best vets. Don't be afraid to ask your own vet for info and support whenever you need it and don't be afraid to find another vet if you fear your own isn't really working hard to help Mac. The attitude of a vet can make a real difference.
